Call for Papers

The BPE will host young boys and girls, policy makers, representatives of relevant intergovernmental organisation, the international community of educators, the private sector representatives, representatives of non-profit and government organizations, leading academics, scholars and researchers, practitioners and parents for a discussion to consider the state of girls’ education in Africa in the wake of the unprecedented school closures caused by COVID-19. The Indaba participants will discuss actions to put Africa on track for promoting the development of gender-responsive education systems and targeted actions to ensure girls’ continuity of learning, retention in school and to transform education for the challenges and opportunities of our time.

We invite the international community to take an active role in shaping the future of girl’s education in Africa. Share your research findings, exchange ideas with policy makers, fellow academic members, expand your network, and get inspired.

PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDE

We accept the submission of high-quality papers describing original and unpublished results of conceptual, constructive, experimental and theoretical work or research on the following themes:

  1. Meeting Commitments: Are Countries in Africa on Track in Achieving Girls’ Enrolment in school? What more should be done?
  2. Girl-child friendly, Inclusive, equitable, safe and healthy schools in times of COVID-19
  3. Educating Girls in Africa in the wake of COVID-19: What should teaching and the teaching profession look like?
  4. Educating Girls in Africa: Learning and skills for life, work and global citizenship
  5. Implementing Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Integral Human Development in Catholic Schools in Africa
  6. School re-entry for pregnant girls: Policy vs practice in Eastern and Southern Africa. What more should be done?
  7. Financing of education in sub-Saharan Africa for a full recovery
  8. Educating at the margins and in emergencies: educating girls in contexts of (choose a focus area on either of these: poverty, war situations and harsh climate impacts, or vulnerability in general)
  9. Educating girls at the margins: Are Catholic Schools Up to the Task?
  10. Creating Gender- Responsive and Transformative Education Systems: Effective Integration of Trauma Informed Educational Practices

Submission of a manuscript implies that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

You are invited to submit your abstract to the BPE Indaba on Creating Gender-Responsive and Transformative Education, taking place from 17th to 19th May 2023 at the Urban Hotel In Lusaka, Zambia. 

Please send your abstract for evaluation by the organising Committee and if the abstract is accepted, the author must provide a full-text paper. The full paper will be requested for subsequent publication opportunities. Otherwise, your abstract only will be published in the Proceedings. 

Upon payment of the registration fee, your presentation will be confirmed.

Full paper guidelines Reviewing Process

All manuscripts will be subjected to double blind peer-review and are expected to meet the scientific criteria of novelty and academic excellence.

The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that the article’s publication has been approved by all other co-authors and takes responsibility for the paper during submission and peer review.

The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

 

Language

The text should be in English, American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of both.

Authors who feel their English language manuscript may require editing to eliminate possible grammatical or spelling errors and to conform to correct scientific English may wish to use relevant editing apps or service.

Academic Ethics

Articles submitted to the conference should report original and previously unpublished findings. Following the ethical conduct is very critical in the academic world. Hence, any act of plagiarism cannot be tolerated. If an author is found to commit an act of plagiarism, the submission will be automatically dismissed.

All papers will be subjected to double-blind peer-reviews. Relevancy, structure, research method, ethical conducts, language standard, innovativeness, references, hypothesis, result presentation, proficiency, format, amongst many other factors are considered for the evaluation process.

Papers that are accepted will be published in the Conference Proceedings.

Instructions for the oral presentation

The length of the presentation should be around 15 minutes. You can use any form of presentation you wish. We will provide the necessary equipment upon request. Please arrive for your presentation early to ensure all the necessary equipment is present.

 

Modes of Presentation

The program committee will schedule all oral and poster sessions for presentation.

 

Oral Sessions

The presentation times for oral sessions are as follows: contributed presentations are 15 minutes.

Please note: You must provide your presentation for preloading. Please submit your presentation (in English, copy-edited and proofread) via email to , no later than 10 business days before the events starts.

If for any reason, you are unable to send your presentation in advance of the Conference, please have your presentation on USB storage.

Poster Sessions

Design your poster so that it is easy to read and include some visuals or charts. Allocate the top of the poster for the title and authors’ names and affiliations. Remember the audience may have a short time frame to read your poster. 

Poster boards will be provided to display poster presentation materials. The board size is A1 international paper size. Materials, including the title, should not extend beyond the poster size.

Do not use foam core or any thick or multi-layered materials or pushpins directly on the poster boards. Please make sure that the material used for the poster allows it to be posted on the boards.

All posters should be based on the submitted abstract as accepted by the Scientific Committee.

Please bring your poster with you. 

 

Virtual Sessions

The conference program for Virtual presentations will be emailed to participants one week before the conference. Virtual presentations will be delivered via an online electronic forum (Webinar). Virtual session attendees will receive the Webinar invitation link a few days before the Conference. Joining the webinar session is easy and takes just a few seconds. Simply click the link in the invitation, you will proceed to your session immediately.

Just remember to register first if you wish to attend as a Virtual presenter.
